LUMINESCENCE OF NANOSIZED ZrO[2], D.Millers, L.Grigorjeva, Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia, 8 Kengaraga str., Riga, Latvia, W. W. Lojkowski, A. Opalinska, High Pressure Research Center, Warsaw, Poland Charge and energy transfer in nonosized particles can be size-dependent since the excitonic excitation is confined in the particle. Therefore a set from 9 nanosized ZrO[2] powders was prepared: undoped ZrO[2] and Pr doped 1% and 2% ZrO[2] (with average grain sizes ~11 nm, ~15 nm, ~42 nm for each kind of powder). The luminescence of powders was excited by continuous x-ray irradiation (50 keV, W-anode), pulsed electron beam (270 keV, 10 ns) and nitrogen laser (3.67 eV, 8 ns). The spectra of luminescence excited by x-ray and pulsed electron beam show some similarity, however the evolution of spectrum is observed in time-resolved study of luminescence. Comparison of results obtained for different grain size ZrO[2] and ZrO[2]:Pr is carried out and possible mechanism of electronic excitation relaxation is discussed
