Abstract

This paper describes a technology of obtaining the ceramic-metal composites with a gradient of metal particles concentration. Such composites combine properties of ceramics and metals, due to gradient of metal concentration it can be used in a wider range of applications both as a structural and functional material.
This paper includes the results of investigation of graded Al2O3-Fe composites, obtained by slip casting. The gradient of iron concentration was induced by magnetic field.
Microstructure, of the specimens have been investigated using a optical and scanning electron microscopy. Quantitative analysis of microstructures have been carried out with the help of image analyser. The obtained results prove the possibility to produce Al2O3-Fe functionally graded materials under the magnetic field.
