Abstract

The paper describes results of the studies curried out on specimens of nano-316L steel obtained by severe plastic deformation (SPD). Specimens were prepped by High Pressure Torsion (HPT) and cold rolling. Size of grains in SPD-316L was determined by TEM observations. Residual stress and microhardness have been measured for as deformed and additionally annealed samples. The results are discussed in terms of the combined effect of grain size refinement and residual stress on the properties of nano-ausenitic stainless steel.
