Abstract

It will be presented for the first time the new route of chemical synthesis of lithium metal phosphates - LiMPO4 (where M = Fe, Mn, Co, Ni) of olivine structure. All materials have higher working potential (4 - 5 V vs. Li/Li+) than commercially used lithium cobalt (LiCoO2) or nickel oxides (LiNiO2) as a positive electrode in lithium-ion batteries. The olivine structure (crystallize in the orthorombic space group Pnma) is stable than structure which represents the layered oxides, due to strong covalent bonds between oxygen ions and P5+ resulting in PO43- tetrahedral polyanions. The so-obtained powders were characterized by several complementary methods, including structural, morphological and electrochemical studies.
