High pressure-low temperature synthesis of new nanostructured compounds

Mild thermodynamic conditions (in terms of pressure and temperature parameters) specific to hydrothermal or solvothermal reactions are able to initiate through chemical bounding directly from solutions new developments in inorganic and molecular chemistry. The enhanced reactivity at the solution/nuclei or inorganic/organic interfaces is one way able to improve chemical bounding between different species. Such chemical bonds can be used to produce in soft conditions nanostructured oxide compounds or hybrid inorganic/organic molecules. More over, the addition of external electric field is able to produce oriented grain growth deposition of thin films starting from these nanocomponds.

The paper presents the opportunities offered by the methods developed by our research group in obtaining different new materials. Examples presented are doped nanocrystalline zinc oxide – maleic acid copolymers with controlled nanostructure and electronic properties, hydroxyl apatite – polysaccharides and layered silicates-polymer compounds - calcium phosphate-polymer hybrids for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
