Unification of all evolutionary paradigms

Pierre Collet

University Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France

Abstract

Evolutionary algorithms are quite ancient in the history of computing, traced back in 1953 in David Fogel's excellent Fossil Record, with works from Australia, the United States and Europe.

Of course, most people working on this strange field did not know each other, and many different paradigms started to emerge, the most popular being the Genetic Algorithms (US East Coast), the Evolution Strategies (Germany), Evolutionary Programming (US West Coast), and more recently Genetic Programming.

However, it happens so that all these different trends are so similar that it is possible to merge them into a more global and general Evolutionary Algorithm, that will be presented during this talk.
