FP7 RAINBOW Training workshop : Properties
of semiconductor materials and devices: Structural, Spectroscopic, Electrical
characterization
Organized within the project: FP7 RAINBOW ITN
Warsaw, 16-17 September 2009
Event associated to E-MRS Fall Meeting 2009
Since October 2009, RAINBOW is an initial Training Network gathering 13 partners in 8 European countries. It aims at training 19 Early stage researchers and 8 Experienced researchers throughout the 13 partner institutions.
The partners are located in the following countries: France, Germany, Spain, Italy, United-Kingdom, Switzerland, Poland and Finland.
The field of research is indium Nitride and its alloys. The RAINBOW academic and industrial consortium work is focused on 3 main work packages: growth, characterization and modelling of InN, InGaN alloys and heterostructures. In the RAINBOW academic and industrial consortium, the theoretical work encompasses modelling of the atomic structure and properties of the material from empirical potentials to ab initio techniques. Experiments provide correlated structural, electronic, optical and chemical information from the nano to the macroscopic scale. Our work will enable us to determine will determine the best conditions for the growth of highest quality InN and In rich (In,Ga,Al)N alloys by the main growth techniques (MOVPE, PAMBE, and HVPE). This will lead to ensure the production of reliable commercial devices such as solar cells and devices capable of operating in the Terahertz range.
The event aims at sharing knowledge on the subject and training young researchers. It will also enable the RAINBOW partners to state their progress through the project after the first year of collaborative work.
The event is focusing on:
• Experimental results on the structure and optical properties
• Growth mechanisms
• Structure of defects that form inside the layers
• Strategies to grow high quality layers
• Workshop: Properties of semiconductor materials and devices: Structural, Spectroscopic, Electrical characterization
The event is directed towards the RAINBOW partners and young researchers but also open to the EMRS attendees.
