Abstract |
Reinforcing composite materials with knitted metal meshes having a loop-like structure typical for knitwear enables the use of increased resistance of composites to mechanical and thermal loads. Regardless of the nature of the matrix. and the field of application, these composites have common features in terms of the structure and relate to three-dimension reinforced materials, meshes in which ensure a series of important functional applications. The textile technique when applied to the reinforcing knitted meshes is able to provide the desired anisotropy of mechanical and functional properties that is influenced by the type of weaving, diameter and number of wires forming loops. High processing capability of the flexible knitted meshes enables formation of composites and products using different methods, including the powder metallurgy techniques, and also the processes used for plastics and ceramics.. As examples of application of composites with knitted meshes in practice one can cite sealing materials based on exfoliated graphite. Another example shall be the use of current conductive lightning protection meshes applied to the surface reinforcement for carbon- and glass-plastics in structures of aircraft and wind power station. High electric conductivity, high flexibility and sufficient strength are the major requirements to such meshes. |
