Abstract |
Problems, related to quantity and quality valuation of porosity and cracks in the protective ceramic layers type TBC standards (YZS) and new type (RE2O3-ZrO2) are presented in this article. A procedure of valuation of porosity, which enables not only to carry out quantity valuation of contents of pores, is proposed but it enables also to create a map of porosity. Creation of these maps gives a possibility to valuate the TBC layer from a point of view of identification of “critical areas” i.e. spots of high contents of pores and/or pores of a large area. The results concerning valuation of cracks and micro-cracks in the ceramic layers are presented in the second part of the article. A special emphasis is laid on the quantity and quality valuation of vertical and horizontal components. The results, showing the double-modality of obtained distributions, are presented. A carried out segmentation of cracks points the domination of vertical and horizontal cracks in the ceramic layer. The quantity and quality valuation of pores and cracks has got an essential meaning, from a point of view of characteristics of properties, such as thermal diffusivity. The application of the quantitative metallography methods, combined with the automatic image analysis presented in described procedures, can form an effective tool for both quantitative and qualitative assessment of such parameters in structural ceramic layers, such as porosity and vertical and horizontal macro- and micro-cracks.
