Abstract |
The technical challenges in the field of hydrogen storage will be outlined and principles of hydrogen storage in general and of hydrogen storage in solids will be explained. The state-of-the art of selected physisorption and chemisorption materials will be presented and advantages and constraints will be mentioned of the different types of materials which are currently under investigation. Examples will be shown where the particular microstructure of hydride-based nanocomposites plays a major role in the transformation behaviour of the materials and a model description is presented which was developed based on detailed knowledge of the processes on the nanoscale. Future trends in the development of hydride materials are outlined and it will be shown that nanotechnological approaches can open new fields in this area and play a major role in the development of viable hydrogen storage materials. |
