Abstract |
The planned MAX IV facility is intended to be the successor of the existing MAX-lab. Three synchrotron radiation storage rings at 0.7, 1.5 and 3.0 GeV will provide spontaneous radiation of very high quality covering a broad spectral range. A 3 GeV linear accelerator will be used as a common injector for all three rings. This linear accelerator will also serve as the electron source for spontaneously emitted short-pulse X-rays in the first phase and for Free Electron Lasers (FEL) in a second phase. The FEL facility is constructed to take advantage of the present and projected fast technical development in this field, aiming towards the construction of a 2nd generation FEL facility. The main line is to benefit from seeding techniques and to use Self Amplified Spontaneous Emission (SASE) amplifiers. |
