Abstract |
Organic-inorganic hybrid materials are very interesting for several applications thanks to their properties based on the synergistic combination of different components. The combination, on a nanometric scale, of inorganic moiety with organic polymers has high potential for future applications, by combining the flexibility and usability of organic polymers with the durability and chemical stability of inorganic materials, to create high performance coatings that are easily incorporated into the traditional process. Among the large number of methodologies for obtaining organic and inorganic building blocks in one material, the sol-gel process represents one of the preferred ways due to the mild operative conditions. The paper presents combinations of alumina nanoparticles with functionalized acrylic polymers, that lead to the enhancement of coating properties, such as biocide activity. Our preliminary results with acrylic polymeric matrices can be explained by assuming a core-shell-like structure for the acrylic polymers and alumina nanoparticles. |
