Abstract

The first application of ion-exchange in the field of the cultural heritage may be attributed to Persians in X Century and, through the Islamic expansion in Europe, arrived to Italy in the XVI Century. A paper of “Mastro Giorgio” indicated the ion-exchange procedure.

In this talk, the use of the ion-exchange process, followed by thermal treatments or irradiation, in different matrices, as polymers, ferroelectrics and dielectrics, will be discussed, in correlation with the application in the field of nanotechnologies, nanophotonics, optical and sensor devices.
