Abstract |
Oxacillin sodium, a widely used beta-lactam antibiotic in the penicillin class, may cause side effects as cholestatic hepatitis, upset stomach and diarrhea [1, 2]. Hydrotalcite –like anionic clay is a biocompatible synthetic clay with pharmaceutical applications such as: excipient, drug stabilizer, component in adhesive for transdermal delivery and for the therapy of digestive disorders. We report here the synthesis of new hybrid structures based on hydrotalcite-like anionic clays incorporated with oxacillin. The porous clay matrix is modified by supporting nanoparticles of iron oxides on the clay surface. The coprecipitation method and the ion exchange method are used to obtain the drug- supported clay hybrid structure. XRD and FTIR analyses give information about the structural features of the obtained samples while TEM analyse is used to study their textural characteristics. These results can open new perspectives to reduce the toxic side effects of oxacillin, its aggregation process in aqueous solution and also to control the drug targeted delivery.
