Abstract |
Impulsive technique has been used for Mechanoluminescence (ML) measurements in γ -irradiated Er doped CaF2 crystals. The crystals of CaF2 : Er were grown by Bridgman technique at BARC Mumbai. The cleaved crystals were annealed at 450 0C for about two hours and cooled very slowly and then irradiated for different time from 60Co source having an exposure rate of 2.8x103 Gy/hr. ML is excited impulsively by the impact of moving piston onto γ - irradiated CaF2: Er crystals. Two peaks are observed in ML intensity VS time curve and it is seen that the peak intensity of first and second peak ( Im1 and Im2) increases with increasing impact velocity. However the time corresponding to first and second peak (tm1and tm2) shift towards shorter time values with increasing impact velocity. It is also seen that the total ML intensity IT initially increases with the impact velocity and then it attains a saturation value for higher values of the impact velocity. Theoritical model is proposed which explains the experimental results satisfactorily . |
