Abstract |
Synthesis of 2-phenylimidazole derivatives and their coordination properties have been studied. 2-Phenylimidazole-4-carbaldehyde has been chosen as starting material in this work. Base catalyzed Knoevenagel condensation [1] of 2-phenylimidazole-4-carbaldehyde with various active methylene group compounds has been used to produce a series of ten 4-substituted 2-phenylimidazole derivatives. Identity and purity of all products has been confirmed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and by GC/MS. Coordination properties of all prepared substances have been tested. The formation of Cu(II) complexes in solution has been studied by UV/VIS spectroscopy. The results have been compared with 2-phenylimidazole and 2-phenylimidazole- 4-carbaldehyde. [1] H. McNab, C.
