Abstract |
The intermetallics R5Pd2 (R = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er) crystallized in the cubic Dy5Pd2 - type structure [1]. Preliminary magnetic measurements showed that these compounds are antiferromagnetic [2]. The effective magnetic moments were enhanced in comparison with theoretical ones. Yakinthos et al. [2] explain this increase by the polarization of the conduction electrons by magnetic moment of rare earth. The aim of this work is examination of the above mentioned compounds with variety physical methods. The samples were obtained by the induction melt in polycrystalline form. The sample with gadolinium crystallized in hexagonal Th7Fe3 – type of crystal structure. The electrical resistivity measurements and ac magnetic susceptibility show a complex magnetic behaviour of these compounds. Several transitions are observed besides of the main peak in ac measurements. Moreover, an anomaly at about 270 K was observed for all compounds in ac and electrical resistivity temperature dependences. 1. M. L. Fornasini, A. Palenzona, J.
