How nanotechnology already affects daily life

Alex Dommann

EMPA, St.Gallen 9014, Switzerland

Abstract

Nanotechnology allows to develop new materials, additives  and coatings with tailor-made functional capabilities to solve a large number of existing technological problems. Empa has established a broad field of nanotechnologies with applications-oriented exploitations of nanoscale effects for different kind of applications like building technologies, textile industry and heath applications. The risks for mankind and the environment involving this key technology are also being studied at Empa.
