Abstract |
The KDP crystal is a type of nonlinear optical (NLO) crystal with outstanding physical properties and reproducible growth to large size. It is also a crucial ingredient in the inertial confinement fusion (ICF) system. Single crystals of L-tyrosine added potassium dihydrogen phosphate have been grown by slow cooling along with seed rotation method. The grown crystal has been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform spectroscopy, UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, thermal analysis (TG/DTA), Vickers microhardness, dielectric measurements, laser damage threshold, HRXRD and second harmonic generation efficiency. The structural difference between pure and doped crystal has been found by XRD analysis. Functional groups were identified by FT-IR spectroscopy. The transmittance of the grown pure and L-tyrosine added KDP crystals were 70%, 90%. Thermal analysis was performed to study thermal stability of the grown crystals. Vickers microhardness measurement reveals the higher hardness of the doped crystals. Low dielectric loss was observed from the dielectric measurements for the doped KDP crystals. The laser damage threshold study reveals the higher laser stability for doped crystals. The high resolution x-ray diffraction studies show that the crystalline perfection of the crystal is quite good. The SHG efficiency measurement reveals that dopant has enhanced the SHG efficiency. The obtained results are compared with pure KDP crystal. Photograph of (a) pure KDP (b) L-tyrosine added KDP crystal grown by slow cooling along with seed rotation method |
