Abstract

The use of new kinds of modifiers for polymers can create possibilities of finding new ecological safety and stable for thermal-mechanical and aging processes compositions. The new kind of polymers were made by modification of plasma carbon black, which can be use as an antioxidant and pigment. The using of plasma carbon black can improve economical part of low density and high density polyethylene production. The decreased amount of plasma carbon black in polymer, beside the economical profits of production, gives better properties of oxidation induction time, what can elongate the time of use. The paper presents the thermal-mechanical and oxidation induction time tests of LDPE and HDPE modified by changeable content of plasma carbon from 0.1 to 1.0% w/w. The investigations were based on SEM images, microscope images and XRD studies. Properties of plasma carbon black were measured by physical and chemical test like BET adsorption, IA and DBF numbers, etc. The results of ageing tests showed the increased oxidation induction time, 57 min., for 0.5% w/w of plasma carbon black content in the composition. The results were compared to commercial cable polyethylene modified by furnance carbon black.
