Abstract |
Cellular metallic materials, also known as metallic foams, are known for their good capability of absorbing mechanical energy through the progressive deformation of their cellular structure. An open-cell foam based on AA2011 alloy is being developed at FEM/Unicamp, using a SSM technique. In this work, the mechanical properties of compression of such material are analyzed, in both semi-static and impact tests. It is also proposed the use of fluid inside the internal voids of the material, in order to achieve different mechanical properties, especially under impact. The results obtained with and without the fluid filling are compared, and their respective behavior suggest possible applications. |
