Abstract |
Liquid crystal materials showing strong fluorescence in visible light have been synthesized and studied. Molecules have bent mesogenic core incorporating 2-benzothiophene. Material exhibit Nematic, Smectic A and Smectic C. Due to the strong anisotropy of molecular organization in LC phases the emitted fluorescent light is strongly polarized. In chiral SmC materials polarization direction can be changed by electric field due to the ferroelectric structure of the phase. This behaviour seems promising for the future applications. |
