Abstract

The paper will deal with the analysis of the dynamics and the differentiation of basic variables that characterize the employment of the European Union’s countries and chosen world economies treated as reference objects. Conducted research will consider such variables as share of total labour compensation in GDP, the number of worked hours, changes of employment level and labour productivity. According to the economic theory especially this last variable plays the decisive role in the formation of the long-term economic growth. Interesting could be also the analysis of relations between indicated variables as well as the evaluation of the influence of the economic crisis on their behaviour. A main statistical data source will be the Total Economy Database published by The Conference Board. The author will verify the hypothesis that there exists growing international differentiation of basic determinants and characteristics of labour force utilization. The conclusions will be drawn with use of research methods of time series analysis and methods of the statistical multidimensional analysis. Within the framework of the latest the cluster analysis will be applied to derive homogenous groups of countries according to the specificity of labour resources and utilization. In addition an idea of the marginal convergence will be used for explaining differences appearing in contribution and speed of convergence of particular European Union countries.
