Abstract

In recent years has increased consumption of bottled drinking water in the world and this waters have become one of the major sources human drinking water supply. Therefore, continuous monitoring of biological and chemical quality of bottled drinking water is essential. One of the chemical parameters that can put impact on the health of consumers this water is fluoride level in them. The purpose of this study was to determine fluoride level of 18 bottled drinking water brands on the Iran market and comparison with the standard values and values written in the label and also examine the relationship between EC and fluoride level in this waters. At first were bought during June 2012، 18 brands of bottled water which was common on the Iran market. Then was measured Fluoride level of each sampel for three times according the standard SPANDS method by using a spectrophotometer DR/4000(HACH company,USA).For measurement of EC used from digital EC meters(HANNA company,ITALY).The study results showed that the mean fluoride concentration of the bottled drinking water sampels was 0.23 mg/l with a range of 0.09 – 0.39 mg/l. In 69.2 percent from the cases, values written on the label were lower than values measured and in 30.8 percent from the cases it was much more. The correlation coefficient between fluoride level and EC was equal 0.27(p=0.27 & r= 0.27) that from the statistical viewpoint does not show significant relation between these two variables. Fluoride levels in all samples was less than from permissible values and fluoride levels in some samples was less than the standard values.
