Abstract

In the last years, a lot of optic fiber sensors have been developed for structural health monitoring systems. There are several physical, chemical and environmental factors that contribute to concrete structures deterioration. There is a need to monitor all these factors to explain the produced damages after extended periods. In this paper we present the results concerning the development of a hydrogel material with a swelling response in the pH range from 13 to 10. This pH decrease  indicate a possible point in the concrete structure where corrosion problems can initiate.
