Abstract

The results of the recent investigations of the pressure and
misorientation effect on grain boundary wetting in bicrystals made of
aluminum are presented. The grain boundaries were of [100] symmetrical
tilt type. The wetting liquid was an Sn-Sb alloy. It was shown that
the wetting angle was a function of misorientation but not of
pressure. The above result shows that the difference of energy of the
liquid/solid and solid/solid interface results solely from the
difference of their free volumes.
